ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING

For nearly 40 years, American Blues has created essential productions for Chicago. We choose classic plays and musicals, as well as world and Chicago premieres from renowned writers that explore the American identity. Our compelling productions are consistently, critically acclaimed and receive numerous awards for artistic excellence.
We produce 3-4 mainstage productions annually, including Chicago’s holiday tradition It’s a Wonderful Life: Live in Chicago!, experienced by more than 60,000 patrons since 2002.
We provide new work development – including workshops, a new reading & concert series, the nationally-recognized Blue Ink Award, commissions, and the annual Ripped Festival of new short plays.
We believe it is an honor and duty to provide community service. We amplify and serve organizations through creative partnerships.
We offer education initiatives for all ages, including our Classes for the Masses series and our free arts education program in Chicago Public Schools.
