ABOUT LIZ

Liz Chidester is a critically-acclaimed and award-winning singer/songwriter, actor, and teaching artist.

Solo, and with her band LIZ AND THE LOVELIES, her albums and EPs include People Pumping Pedals (2014,) Otter Hill (2015), Progress Into Simplicity (2017), otherside of the darkest timeline (2021), BILLY (2024), with numerous single releases between 2017-2025. She has won NPR’s NewSong Songwriting Contest, Chicago Music Awards, Independent Music Awards, and her song “the great american chestnut tree” was featured on NPR’S All Songs Considered in 2020. She is currently working on a new “Latin Americana” project LIZ AND NILKO in NYC with her partner classical guitarist Nilko Andreas. She is a member of the Recording Academy and Folk Alliance International.

Liz is a Jeff Award winning and critically acclaimed actor, called “one of the most truthful actors in this city” by Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune. She is an Ensemble Member of American Blues Theatre and a Company Member of Firebrand Theatre. She has worked as an actor, collaborator, and composer with PigPen Theatre Co, Chicago Children’s Theatre, and Cabinet of Curiosity. She is currently developing a play with music and puppetry based on the book “Women Who Run With The Wolves.” She is an equity member of AEA.

Liz was a proud teaching artist for nearly a decade at the Old Town School of Folk Music, teaching group and private classes in voice, ‘ukulele, guitar, and songwriting, as well as in the summer camps and Wiggleworms. She now teaches with Education Through Music, Church Street School of Music, and Midori & Friends in NYC. She is a proud graduate of James Madison University’s School of Music.
