ABOUT MATTHEW

A Chicago-trained actor now based in Los Angeles, Matthew has performed with the finest Windy City and Regional American Theaters. Matthew has been a resident ensemble member of American Blues Theater since 2001 where he has 16 production credits, three Jeff Nominations, and a Broadway World nomination for Best Actor. Matthew received the Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Actor in Musical for his portrayal of country music legend “Hank Williams Sr” in Lost Highway. Other Chicago Credits include work with Goodman Theatre, Court Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Writers’ Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre Co, Northlight Theatre, Timeline Theatre Co, 16th Street Theatre, Prop Theatre, About Face Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre, Chicago Dramatists, Organic Touchstone Theatre, Shakespeare on the Green and Poetry Onstage with Bernie Sahlens. Matthew also served and taught as an acting mentor for Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s Theatre for Young Audiences program.

Regional Credits include work with Long Wharf Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, over ten productions with Indiana Repertory Theatre including the title role in Hamlet, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, a national tour with Montana Repertory Theatre where he played Stanley in Streetcar Named Desire, Peninsula Players Theater, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival, Door Shakespeare, three years of the Tennessee Williams Festival in Clarksdale MS, American Heartland Theatre in Kansas City, and Milwaukee Repertory Theatre where the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel awarded Matthew “Top Solo Theatre Production” for his work in Nobody Lonesome For Me.

Since moving to LA, Matthew has focused on film work as an actor and producer. He has played lead roles and supporting lead roles in the feature films Endings, Where We Started, Blur Circle, Seven Short Films About Our Marriage, Of Minor Prophets, and I Always Hated My Brother. He executive produced the short film The Model which screened at the prestigious LA International Shorts Festival, he served as associate producers on the films Lone Wolves and I Always Hated my Brother, and he will produce the upcoming feature horror film Method. For his on camera work, Matthew has won Best Actor awards at the Reel East Texas Film Festival, Canada’s ReelheART Film Festival, and the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival.

Matthew is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Lee University (BA English/Theatre), Northwestern University (MA Acting), and University of Idaho (MFA Directing) where he was the recipient of three regional Kennedy Center awards for direction and a national Kennedy Center Award for Acting.

FUN FACT

Matthew has hiked the 75 mile High Sierra Trail, completed every major hike in Yosemite including Half Dome (twice) and  made the ascent of Mt Whitney which is the tallest mountain in the 48 contiguous states. He also surfs regularly in Malibu.
