ABOUT PHILIP
I have been married for almost 30 years, and my wife and I have four great children. I am deeply grateful to my wife Genna for her dedication to our children, staying home with them and raising them to be fine human beings while I have often traveled the country performing my shows, MooNiE the Magnif’Cent and The MooNiE and BrooN Show, among many others. I have been a proud member of Actors Equity and SAG-AFTRA for over 30 years and have auditioned, as all actors have, for far more acting jobs than I can count and landed a small fraction of them, doing around 40 or so plays, give or take, as a professional. The theaters are mostly the same ones that you all know in Chicago, and other parts of Illinois, with a few in Los Angeles.
My IMDB is under Philip E. Johnson, and I know I should change it to Earl. Some of my television and film credits are listed there.
After performing in three back-to-back plays in 2019, I chose to focus on my solo comedy work at Renaissance faires, solo performances that I have written, performed and directed at indoor theaters, as well as starting to do stand up comedy. The stand up officially began in 2024 and has been the most interesting of my artistic journeys in the last year. In what could be termed a trial by fire, I was asked to headline most of the shows as a relative beginner because of the name recognition from my MooNiE Show. Having to fill 50 minutes of time, as a newcomer to the art form (though a 35 year veteran as a professional comedian), has been alternatingly terrifying and exhilarating. The challenge has been worth it, though I have not always reached the level of achievement I desired. The willingness to fail is what drives me, for without that, I would surely stop.
FUN FACT
He has two CDs of original adult comedy songs that do not contain what we call “swear words”: Stocking the Pond and Public New Ditty.
